Mexico's most violent year with nearly 16,000 homicides from January to June

The homicides that were presented in the first half of 2018 already place this year as the most violent recorded in Mexico. With a total of 15 thousand 973 people murdered the country accumulates a rate of 11.01 homicides per 100 thousand inhabitants, the highest since 1997.

The murders of the first six months of this year exceed the 2011 figure, when the so-called war on organized crime was conducted, in which they recorded 9.7 homicides.

The figures come from the Executive Secretariat of the National System of Public Security (SESNSP) which show that last June there were 2 thousand homicides. 668 victims of intentional homicide. With this, the period from January to June 2018 ends with an average of 88.7 homicides committed daily

Compared to the first six months of 2017, which recorded a semi-annual rate of 9.66 homicides by all the 100 inhabitants, this year the homicides increased by 14%.

The data published by the agency show that 68% of these crimes committed in the first half of 2018 have been with some type of gun.

Regarding the most violent states Colima occupies the first place with 40.02 records per 100,000 population, followed by Baja California with 35 61 homicides; Guerrero 31.67; Chihuahua 22.58, and Guanajuato, 20.21

In contrast, the states with the lowest rate of intentional homicides in the first half are Yucatán, Hidalgo, Campeche, Aguascalientes, Coahuila and Durango.
