The Argentine Néstor Pitana was appointed as referee of the final of the World Cup between France and Croatia on Sunday.
Pitana will give the final whistle at the Luzhniki stadium in Moscow where he will lead the opening match of the tournament, with the victory Russia by 5-0 against Saudi Arabia .

This will be the fifth match for Pitana in this World Cup, and the second who will touch both with France and with Croatia .
Pitana led France to a 2-0 victory over Uruguay in the quarterfinals. He also did it when Croatia defeated Denmark on penalties in the round of 16 after a 1-1 draw.
For the fourth time in a World Cup a referee of Conmebol defeated the grand final.
In Spain 1982 Arnaldo Cohello of Brazil. In Mexico 1986 Arphi Philipo of Brazil. In Germany 2006 Horacio Elizondo of Argentina and in 2018 in Russia, Néstor Pitana also of Argentina
This not to mention Edgardo Codesal who is Uruguayan by birth but who led the final of Italy 90 representing Mexican arbitration
Pitana will be accompanied by a team of three men formed by his compatriots Hernán Maidana and Juan Belatti with the Dutch ] Bjorn Kuipers as the fourth official.
