Thousands of people reacted indignantly after a 41-year-old Malay Muslim married an eleven-year-old Thai.
The man, identified as Che Abdul Karim Hamid already has two wives and also has six children, among those who are older than his new partner.
According to the information, Abdul Hamid was secretly married to a minor. The news regarding his third marriage was made public after filing a complaint with the police by one of his wives.
According to Islamic law, Muslim women under the age of 16 can get married if they have the consent of their spouse. the parents and a Sharia court (Law of the Islamic religion which includes all the commandments of Allah).
However, the Deputy Prime Minister of the country, Wan Azizah Wan Ismail told the authorities that the marriage was illegal since it had not been approved by any Islamic court.
