Fugitive, a man convicted of a maxi-trial, is barricaded with hostages in a post office in the town of Pieve Modolena, in the province of Reggio Emilia (northern Italy ), armed with a knife, according to the agency Ansa informed.
According to initial reports, he would have sent all the clients who were at the office, but kept about five employees, including the branch manager.
The raptor was identified as Francesco Amato, one of the 125 convicts last Wednesday, at the first stage of the "Aemilia" process, the largest lawsuit on the infiltration of the "Ndrangheta, the Calabrian mafia, in the north of Italy.
Amato was sentenced to 19 years in prison, but since his conviction, he has remained untraceable and escaped imprisonment.
