Starting today and until October 26, the Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS) will be heavier for fuels this week, which means that the price of the Gasoline could rise 49 and 82 cents per liter.

The Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) indicated that the tax for Magna will be 3.26 pesos per liter, 82 cents more than what is paid.

For the Premiumwill increase by 80 cents: the quota per liter will be 3.55 pesos. For diesel, the quota increased by 49 cents from 2.17 pesos last week to 2.66 pesos per liter.

Every Friday, the Ministry of Finance determines and publishes in the Official Journal of the Federation (DOF) the amounts of the federal IEPS that it bills for each liter of gasoline and diesel.

In this case, the maximum quota applicable this year for the Magna is 4.59 pesos per liter, 3.88 pesos for the Premium and 5.04 pesos for the diesel.

The increase takes place in the penultimate month of the current administration. Dew Nahle, the next Secretary of Energy, stressed that he planned to remove this IEPS included in the final price of gasoline, so it seeks to offset the 250 billion pesos generated annually by this tax.

In an interview with Expansión, Ramses Pech, an independent energy analyst, said "rising oil prices and the exchange rate mean that the Ministry of Finance can no longer encourage, in order to do not sacrifice more income ".

He also added, "The elimination of the IEPS would increase the purchasing power of the consumer by reducing fuel prices and realizing savings."

The decision to increase hydrocarbons will depend on each service station and federation in the country.
