Ricciardo will start first

Daniel Ricciardo radiated for the first time in months. Max Verstappen, his teammate Red Bull, was sparkling.

Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, seemed totally calm, knowing that he was in an unbeatable position to win his fifth Formula One championship.

Ricciardo took pole from Verstappen at the conclusion of an entertaining ranking of the Mexican Grand Prix yesterday. Both drivers will try to give Red Bull their third win of the season.

"I knew the power of the car was going to react," said Australian Ricciardo. "I have to relax a bit, I need serenity for tomorrow."

Hamilton will start third. You can let the Red Bulls fight first and calculate with your Mercedes until the finish line. A seventh place will ensure his fifth British title, tied with the legendary Argentine Juan Manuel Fangio for the second largest number of F1 history. Only Germany's Michael Schumacher has more with seven.

Hamilton missed his chance to win the title this week at the US Grand Prix, where he finished third.

"Being so close makes me super happy," said Hamilton.

Verstappen has dominated the trials and is expected to become the youngest driver to win a pole in F1 history. But Ricciardo overtook him at the end of qualifying, with a lap of 1 minute and 14.759 seconds on the Hermanos Rodriguez racetrack, 0.026 seconds better than the 21-year-old Dutchman.

"I had a bad time in qualifying," Verstappen said. "I did not have good feelings."

The Red Bulls will have their first double at the start of the first row since the beginning of the hybrid engine era in 2014. This is also the first pole for Ricciardo since his victory in Monaco.

At more than 2,000 meters above sea level, the Mexican circuit favors the Red Bulls. Verstappen is the defending champion of the race and dominated the three events.

Ricciardo could play his last chance to win a victory for Red Bull. He will leave the team to join Renault in 2019.

Hamilton commented that he would like to look for victory to focus on everything, but he does not think he has a lot of possibilities.

"They (Red Bull) are in a separate league," Hamilton said.

Hamilton started third last year and a touch in the first corner with the Ferrari Sebastian Vettel punctured a tire. Hamilton finished ninth, but could still be crowned.

Vettel will start again behind Hamilton on Sunday and the German must win to retain his title title for the next race in Brazil.

"You saw what happened last year with the red car that was behind me," Hamilton said. "Everything will be launched in the first corner, if a space is open, I will take the opportunity, otherwise I will occupy the position."
