UNITED STATES – Actor Robert De Niro finalizes the details to join the cast of a project on the figure of the Joker, the great enemy of Batman who will play Joaquin Phoenix in a movie centered on the origins of the character, reported today The Hollywood Reporter.
De Niro, in his first participation in a comic film, will be the presenter of a successful television program that plays a key role in converting the protagonist into a criminal figure, reported Vanguardia MX .
Variety magazine adds that the film's scenario is similar to that of The King of Comedy (1982), directed by Martin Scorsese and starring De Niro. In this film, a failed comedian decides to kidnap a famous TV host for celebrity and recognition.

The screenplay is of Scott Silver (The Fighter) and Philips and will tell the origins of the Joker and the events that have led him to become this deadly criminal.
The story will take place in Gotham City during the 1980s and it will bet on a more dramatic tone than the usual cartoon movies.
The project, of which filming will begin in September in New York is part of a new series of DC Comics films with a different angle from the universe that has been developed so far in works like Suicide Squad, where Jared Leto played the Joker
