The Samsung Pay payment platform has become the most used application of this type in Latin America, which in Mexico has added about 360,000 users.

According to the company's chief value-added services director, Francisco Martínez, the market is becoming more and more ready to use this type of technology.

Nine months after its launch, the South Korean payment platform has exceeded 360,000 users, with a 95% acceptance of point-of-sale terminals.

"The increase in the number of companies that accept Samsung Pay as payment method shows the growing interest of users for the introduction of technologies in everyday life, especially in areas that facilitate financial transactions and make them safer, "said Francisco Martínez.

He also explained that digitization was a trend in the world today. Mobile payments have been well adopted. The application is growing steadily and the confidence is that this trend will continue.

"We are working to strengthen our digital wallet by offering more benefits to users when they pay via their smartphone, as well as to inform companies so that it's safe and secure." is a frequent habit in payment methods, "he said.

The platform allows users to make payments using their mobile phone as a card, featuring the technology of Knox, Samsung's security system, preloaded on all devices of the company.

This helps protect all user information through the use of passwords and biometrics, while eliminating remote banking data in the event of loss of equipment.

According to the consulting firm The Competitive Intelligence Unit, 60% of mobile phone users had a smartphone just three years ago, while today almost nine out of 10 people have one.

They expect more banks to join

According to Martínez, there are currently seven banks with which they collaborate and which issue credit and debit cards: American Express, Banorte, BanRegio, Citibanamex, HSBC, Santander and Scotiabank.

He added that information on the integration of new issuers into the digital wallet would soon be available. In fact, BBVA Bancomer is not added to this platform, but should be added soon.

"If we see it at the level of large card issuers, Bancomer would be absent first or second, because they are at the same level, according to the latest statistics provided by the Bank of Mexico, between Bancomer and Citibanamex in number of plastics. Another would be Inbursa, with which we would have more than 80% of the market measured in number of credit cards, "he said. (With information from Edgar Juárez)
