"If Brazil continues with a slightly upward trend, we understand that what would have worsened by the end of this year and that we could have a 2019 maybe a little better this year," confessed the President of the Association of Argentine Component Factories (NWAC). Raúl Amil.
The representative of the sector, the autopartists raised before this newspaper their hopes of overcoming the crisis of the internal market, but warned that everything would depend on the economic pace of the neighboring country, especially the policy that could promote its new president, Jair Bolsonaro.
"The auto parts complex is closely linked to the destination of Brazil, we export about 50% of what is produced in vehicles, with which many parts are exported indirectly, and 70% of this destination is Brazil. So when Brazil went bad, we went with that fall and when Brazil went very well, we also had very large production volumes, "he said.
According to AFAC, "the level of activity is down, particularly with respect to sales in the local market", but nevertheless predicts that the year "s business will continue to grow. will complete with a 2% advance over 2017.
"If we look at the year, we still have 2% more than the production of vehicles, and so what are the auto parts for the original market goes together." What is the replacement market, there are major drops, "said Amil.
The leader acknowledged that the current exchange rate "favors" the sector because it makes it "more competitive", but said that this improvement "is not immediate". Even for this reason, the NWAC is advancing before the National Commission for the Defense of Competition (CNDC) with its claim that the terminals are updating the prices that motorists pay against the advance of the dollar.
The employment situation
Amil acknowledged that employment in the sector had fallen sharply since 2011, the year of peak output. He said that since this year the number of jobs has increased from 65,000 to 59,000, but he pointed out that in recent months, the decline "was well below the decline in activity ".
"We do not see a massive layoff situation at all," they told AFN.
The tenth edition of Automechanika, with more exhibitors
The incumbent of NWAC spoke at the event to present the next edition of Automechanika, which will be held for the tenth consecutive year in Argentina, from November 7 to 10, on the site of La Rural. of the federal capital.
The event will have 451 exhibitors (13% more than in 2017), including 209 representatives of foreign companies. "No one attending a biennial exhibition is looking into the short term," said Fernando Gorbarán, president and CEO of Messe Frankfurt in Argentina.
