Recommendations on the Mass, Peace and Communion

In the wake of the flu anxiety in Yucatan, Archbishop Gustavo Rodríguez Vega yesterday formulated a series of recommendations aimed at preventing the spread of wrong. 19659003] Among the recommendations are three: 1) that the salutation of peace at the time of the Mass is not at hand, but only with words or with a gesture of reverence; 2) that one who has the disease should not go to Mass, so as not to infect others, and 3) that communion occur in the hand, unless the parishioner asks for it in the mouth.

The Archbishop says this:

To all priests, deacons, members of consecrated life, seminarians and all the people of God in this Yucatan Church: Pax!

Dear brothers and sisters, I greet you with affection and I wish you all well in the Lord. Given the significant increase in cases of influenza due to the AH1N1 virus, which we have learned through the media and the warnings that exist in different health centers of the state, we want that the Church take the appropriate measures of hygiene

I ask all the priests and deacons of our archdiocese to make known the following precautions to the whole congregation:

1) To inform the faithful that those who experience some of the symptoms that make them suspect that they have contracted the flu, do not attend liturgical celebrations in the temple, but until they have overcome the illness. Remember that the precept of Sunday does not oblige the sick.

2) Encourage the entire congregation to visit the doctor when they suspect that they have contracted the flu.

3) That in all the temples one tries, at the time of the celebrations, a device with antibacterial gel for all those who need it.

4) That at the moment of the greeting of peace, they do not shake hands, but rather the greeting of words and a simple gesture of reverence. 19659003] 5) That Holy Communion be distributed in the hand, unless the faithful ask for it in the mouth.

Message from the Archbishop

The Archbishop of Yucatan, Bishop Gustavo Rodríguez Vega, yesterday issued provisions to deal with the flu. The measures, he said, will be observed until we are informed that the epidemic risk has passed. As Christians, we must be concerned about the health of the soul, but also of the health of the body, which we must consider as a duty before God, especially if, as in this case, a possible contagion can harm others. Let us take these practices as a concrete expression of charity towards the neighbor, said the prelate in his message
