The future of the new airport will be decided in consultation with citizens, confirms AMLO

Andrés Manuel López Obrador, virtual elected president, informs that the destination of the New Mexico International Airport (NAIM) will be decided by a citizen consultation to be held at the end of October.

"A citizen consultation will be held at the end of October, so that Mexicans can decide what we should do.This is not a program, it means making decisions that claim Billion pesos of the budget, "said López Obrador at a press conference Monday.

The virtual elected president said that he analyzes which organization can organize and carry out the consultation.

"We will see if it is through the INE, an association of civil society, citizens, to organize the consultation, people of indisputable honesty, Democrats, people who want citizen participation ".

From August 15 to October 15, there will be forums to analyze the three options available

López Obrador said that there are solutions for the construction of the NAIM: continue with the construction of the l & # 39; 39, Lake Texcoco Airport; build some tracks in the military base of Santa Lucia; or the concession to private initiative.

On the other hand, the former head of government clarified that the businessman José María Riobóo does not participate in the call for bids for the airport construction.

After the businessman took part last week in the meeting of the virtual president team with the secretary of communications, Gerardo Ruiz Esparza, to share information about the NAIM.

Javier Jiménez Espriú stated that the participation of the businessman at this meeting was as a citizen and not in order to participate in the construction of the new airport.

Espriú explained that this week they will meet the current officials of the airport work, in order to advance the information needed to decide the location of the new airport, also said that they want to have "at hand" all the technical information available to make a decision according to the most practical for the country.

At the conference, López Obrador detailed Monday that he held a meeting with his cabinet to analyze 7 priority projects during his administration.

The construction of the NAIM, the Maya Train project, the construction of 300 rural roads in Guerrero and Oaxaca, the communication of the entire national territory through the Internet, the reconstruction of the country after the September 19 earthquake 2017, the infrastructure project in the Tehuantepec Isthmus and support to marginalized areas constitute the Tabasco project package.

For this purpose, López Obrador plans to allocate about 500 million pesos to carry out priority projects.

"These resources will receive the money we will get for savings, because the salaries of senior civil servants will be reduced," he said.
