A Belgian model caused a scandal by posing naked near Western Wall the most sacred place where Jews can pray in Jerusalem, an incident that religious authorities denounced as "embarrassing and serious.
In an image, Marisa Papen 26 years old, adopts a lascivious pose on a white plastic chair, with the wailing wall as a backdrop, under the terrace on which she stands. This photo is currently on display in Belgium, according to the Belgian newspaper HLN. Shmuel Rabinowitz, the Rabbi in charge of the Wailing Wall, described this incident as "embarrassing, serious and saddening, which threatens the sanctity of the place and the feelings of those who visit it".
In 2017, Papen was detained for 24 hours in Egypt for also posing naked in front of the Karnak Temple, Israeli media reported.
The Western Wall is in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City. It is located just below the Temple Mount, the third most sacred site of Islam, and the holiest site for Jews, who call it the Temple Mount.
The session was held on Independence Day of Israel. "While the rest of Jerusalem was celebrating, I was enjoying the afternoon sun on a rooftop," writes the model on his blog
