The Uruguayan writer Ida Vitale won the Cervantes 2018 award

The Uruguayan poet Ida Vitale won the 2018 Cervantes Prize for "her language, one of the most recognized and recognized poems" and her "poetic, intellectual, critical and first-rate translator" on Thursday. reported the agency EFE.

The prize, the most important in Spanish literature, was announced by the Spanish Minister of Culture, José Guirao, who wanted to have an "emotional memory" for the Mexican Fernando del Paso, who died on Wednesday.

Vitale, member of the "Generation 45" with his compatriots Mario Benedetti and Juan Carlos Onettihe had already won the FIL Prize for Literature in Romance Languages ​​2018 in Mexico in September.

On this occasion, the election was justified by the "poetic force in the field of the Spanish language "de Vitale, 95, who received the prize of the International Book Fair of Guadalajara, one of the most important letters of the Hispanic world.

Vitale was born in Montevideo in 1923. She studied human sciences and taught until 1974.when the military dictatorship (1973-1985) in Uruguay led to exile in Mexico for ten years.
