Madrid, Nov. 5 (EFE) .- The national court is studying today during a hearing to extradite Argentina from the Franco-American arms trafficker Jean Bernard Lasnaud, who accused the former Argentine president Carlos Menem in 2002 Country from South America to Croatia and Ecuador.
Lasnaud had already been extradited from Switzerland to Argentina in 2002 and then told the country that Menem was aware of the smuggling. Finally, a Buenos Aires judge released him for lack of evidence of conspiracy and illicit trafficking.
The Argentine justice has issued a new arrest warrant against him for which he was recently arrested in Spain. The extradition proceedings will now begin with the hearing which is being held today in front of the second section of the criminal chamber of hearing, to be decided by the court or not. The court will have to decide whether he must extradite Lasnaud, who implicated the Menem government, saying he was "aware" of smuggling weapons to Croatia and Ecuador, committed between 1991 and 1995.
Lasnaud was also the subject of an investigation for smuggling arms of Argentine arms into Croatia between 1991 and 1995, when it was banned to sell arms to that nation and to Other countries involved in the conflict in the former Yugoslavia.
