UNITED STATES.- A comprehensive study conducted by the US National Toxicological Program found that there was "clear evidence" that male rats exposed to high levels of radio frequency radiation, similar to those used in 2G and 3G cell phones, may develop cancerous tumors of the heart.
The research, cited by the EurekAlert portal, also revealed "some evidence" of tumors in the brain and adrenal gland of male rats. However, no such association was observed in female rats or mice of either sex.
Researcher John Bucher said that these exposures "can not be directly compared to what humans experience when using a mobile phone" because "rats and mice received radiofrequency radiation throughout the body" .

The study, which began when 2G and 3G telephony was standard, did not attempt to determine the health impact of technologies such as Wi-Fi or 5G. "5G is an emerging technology, so we understand that it will probably be very different from what we are studying," Wyde said.
