Dr. Andrés Bazán Borges, chief surgeon of the Juárez de México Hospital (HJM) transplantation program, led the third kidney-kidney transplant, which consists of having living donors without family ties, which has benefited two young patients with chronic kidney failure who put their lives in danger.

The intervention lasted six hours and 32 transplant surgeons participated. This cross transplantation saved the life of José Salvador Valerio Becerril, 23 years old, from the municipality of Villa Nicolás Romero, State of Mexico, who was diagnosed with chronic renal failure and received the kidney from Joel Yebra Aguilar, also 23 years old. years old, who works as a systems technician in the municipality of Amealco, Queretaro.

The other case is that of Kevin Irad Rodríguez Aguilar, a 20-year-old boy who has just completed high school in Amealco, Queretaro, also suffering from chronic renal failure, will benefit from this procedure, receiving a kidney of Mr. Francisco Valerio, 50 years old.

It should be remembered that cross transplantation was approved in 2014, after the reforms of the General Health Law, approved by the Union Congress, which has become an alternative for the national health system , allowing a living donor to offer an organ to another compatible person without having a consanguineous relationship and guarantee the best donor for the best recipient.

By this type of transplantation, one seeks to reduce waiting times for about 20,000 people who are waiting to receive an organ and whose life depends until now on a kidney transplant cadaverous because their direct relatives are incompatible as different blood group and body size.

It should be noted that the first kidney transplant in the history of medicine in the country was conducted at the Hospital Juárez de México on January 19, 2016, to two people with chronic kidney problems who have exchanged their donors, to ensure a successful transplant. The second intervention at the same hospital took place on November 21, 2017, during which four people made a simultaneous donation to four recipients.
