Tourist informality

[ad_1]

This week, Rafael García González, president of the Mexican Association of Hotels and Motels, again demanded that the federal government begin procedures to regulate the additional hotel supply in the country, because independently Of the excessive growth that it has had in recent years, this represents a millionaire tax evasion due to legal loopholes in our laws regarding temporary accommodation for tourism purposes in homes.

Since I have been president of the Association of Zacatecas Hotels, year after year and especially for the beginning of the season, the press questions us about the pirated hotels that are established to receive our guests on vacation. Interestingly, I can tell you that this phenomenon has decreased thanks to the constant verification of Secturz, but at the national level, temporary accommodation for tourism purposes through mobile apps has increased and it seems that No authority cares about that.

We can not ignore the evolution of the hospitality market where the emergence of application-based distribution channels is a trend that currently dominates tourism activity, and the One of the areas where most is seen in dwellings with tourist purposes, which is not new, but its recent expansion is based on the following basics:

A) Few &; d Peu::::::::::::::::::::::::::: barriers to entry to make this activity an income for homeowners.

B) Missing the regulation of the phenomenon.

C) The overall strengthening of companies that act as distribution channels.

To give an idea of the growth dimension of this modality represented by the brand AirBnB, I will give you concrete data for 2017.

-We have detected more than 47 thousand units dedicated to 100% for this service , including nearly 28 thousand registered bookings.

– The average public rate is $ 201 with an average occupancy of 44%.

– According to these figures, estimated sales totaled about $ 717 million, or 13.6 billion pesos.

– As you can see, this size of business and its economic importance are far from being inscribed alone in the so-called formal or collaborative economy.

One of the main problems of these applications and especially AirBnB as a distribution channel, as well as the homes marketed are not registered with the RNT (National Register of Tourism) as it should be according to the l & # 39; Article 3, Fraction 11 of the General Law on Tourism and, therefore, are not subject to the regulations of each tourist establishment.

We must also add to this long list the legal infractions to the Profeco, the town halls, the Civil Code and the Law on commercial establishments, among others.

We understand as entrepreneurs in the sector that our business is an area of intense competition and therefore we consider that spaces for temporary accommodation, with a tourist purpose in the housing, will always be welcome, but submitted as it should be to an organized competition
