The Ministry of Public Education (SEP) has decided to suspend the courses in Mexico City in order to preserve the health of the students in the face of water shortages due to the maintenance of the Cutzamala system, from October 31 to November 3.
The SEP argued that the request was made at the request of the school community and mayors.
The suspension of the courses will take place in public schools of basic education, next Wednesday, October 31 and Thursday, November 1.
There will also be no classes on November 2nd because it is a non-working day, according to the 2018-2019 school calendar.
In the case of private schools, each of them will decide on the suspension of courses according to their needs and the possibility of guaranteeing water to their students, teachers and their workers in general. .
"The decision was made at the request of the school community, mayors and to preserve the health of the students themselves facing the possibility of a shortage of water at that time and which will affect Mexico", the statement said. the SEP.
The Federal Administration of Education in Mexico City administers 4,300 public schools, or one million 300,000 students in basic education – primary, preschool, primary, secondary and special.
On October 15, the National Water Commission, meeting with the Secretariat for Public Education, determined that classes were not suspended in the days before or during the water cutoff and that water tanks would be provided, serving emerging specific cases, for example, schools with storage failures. But now, it will not be like that anymore, because school activities will be suspended from the first days of the liquid cut.
Finally, the secretariat has invited schools and private institutions to participate in the suspension of courses.
