Work at Hidroituango partially suspended

A new turnaround took the execution of the Ituango hydroelectric project, following the order to suspend all activities related to the construction, filling and operation of the reservoir , issued by the National Authority for Environmental Permits (Anla), in Resolution 820 of 1 June.

It states that the suspension does not imply the implementation of the monitoring and surveillance plan, nor the work implemented from the contingency, generated since April 28 after the obstruction of auxiliary drifting tunnel by a landslide

The measure, which is of a preventive nature, will be maintained until the Hidroituango Company complies with a series of conditions, such as the hiring of employees. National or foreign experts, an opinion on the current conditions of stability and future operation of the hydroelectric project.

As stated by Anla in the resolution, the determination was made with the aim of avoiding that, with the future development of the project, additional unforeseen impacts could be generated which could cause more risky situations for environmental protection assets and impacts since April 28th.

The resolution imposes a series of burdens on the builder of the project. It must provide enough information to the Anla that allows to have scientific certainty as to the existence or not of risk conditions that may affect the environment. This information must be provided by experts who have no links or have participated in any stage of the project. Similarly, Anla asked Corantioquia to verify compliance with the imposed preventive measure, against which no remedy is required.
