Zika, Chikunguya and dengue "attack" again in Yucatan

MERIDA, YUC.- Cases of mosquito-borne diseases continue to report new cases and in the last week epidemiological (October 20th to 27th), six new infections were confirmed by zika and three of the dengue. Cases of chikungunya they remain unchanged, with two confirmed infections.

According to the weekly bulletin published by the Directorate General of Epidemiology, until week 43 (cut to October 20) confirmed 21 cases of Zika, 14 men and 7 women, two of whom contracted the infection transmitted by the mosquito Aedes aegyptito be pregnant.

Zika's figure exceeds that reported last year on the same date, or 15 cases where the calendar has ended.

Regarding dengue, the mentioned break confirmed two cases of the modality called "without alarm data" and a case in the "with alarm data" variety.

Last year, during the same period, dengue cases were 72 and one respectively.
Dengue, chikungunya and zika are diseases transmitted by the same mosquito, Aedes aegypti and by the mosquito Aedes albopictus, whose first specimens were detected in the state of Kanasín last week, revealed the Health Secretariat of Yucatán (SSY).

Symptoms

The symptoms of dengue are a high fever (39-40 ° C) sudden onset, usually lasting two to seven days, accompanied by headache, pain in the body and joints, prostration, weakness, pain behind the eyes. , skin rash and itchy skin. Weight loss, nausea and vomiting are common, persistent, bleeding from the mucous membranes, among other symptoms.

Chikungunya disease is characterized by high fever and acute pain in the joints of the feet and hands, as well as fingers, ankles and wrists. Headaches, muscle aches and red spots on the skin may also occur. Once the disease is contracted and cured, it is no longer possible to have chikungunya again.

After being infected, the person is immunized for the rest of his life.
Symptoms begin between two and twelve days after the mosquito bite.

The mosquito contracts the Chikv virus when an infected person bites, during the period when the virus is present in the infected organism. About 30% of cases have no symptoms.
