NEW DELHI: The founder of Jet Airways, Naresh Goyal, was prevented Saturday from leaving the country due to a surveillance circular issued by the Ministry of Interior of the Union, announced Saturday managers.
The disclosure took place after Naresh Goyal and his wife Anita Goyal were arrested by immigration authorities at Mumbai airport a few minutes before their plane was about to take off for London via Dubai, said the officials.
"There is a circular of vigilance against Goyal to prevent travel abroad," said an official of the Ministry of the Interior.
A vigilance circular is issued against a person enjoining immigration authorities to make sure not to leave India through an airport or seaport .
The Office of Immigration is under the Ministry of the Interior of the Union.
The couple was on board EK 507 flight from Emirates Airways.
An airport official said that the aircraft had been recalled to the parking lot at the time of taxiing.
In April, Kiran Pawaskar, president of the Jet Airways staff association, wrote to the Mumbai police commissioner demanding the seizure of Goyal's passports and other directors of the airline, his staff not having touched salary for several months.
Naresh and Anita Goyal resigned from the Jet Airways board of directors, which was created 26 years ago in March, following a debt restructuring plan. He had also resigned as president of the airline.
