On Thursday, a piece of roof collapsed from an apartment building in northwest Miami-Dade, Florida, four weeks to the day after a skyscraper collapsed near Surfside.
The Surfside collapse resulted in emergency safety audits of all buildings over 40 years old and five or more stories tall, including a North Miami Beach resort that was closed and evacuated following the report of ‘an inspector on its structural integrity.

The damage occurred in a building erected in 1972, but it is only three stories tall, according to property records.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava attended the scene in person Thursday night.
“All residents have been evacuated and @RedCross is helping families,” she tweeted after meeting with first responders.
Aerial footage released by FOX affiliate WSVN shows a large span of roof tumbling down on the side of the brick and concrete building.

The roof collapsed around 4:15 p.m., according to the station. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said no injuries were reported and the occupants were safely evacuated.
The Surfside death toll had risen to at least 97 by Wednesday night, four weeks after the Champlain Towers South building partially collapsed in the wee hours of June 24. It is believed that many victims were asleep at the time.
At least one, model Cassie Stratton, was on the phone with her husband when she said something was wrong and the line fell silent.
