Miami Dolphins Activate Raekwon Davis; Raising Isaiah Ford and Jabaal Sheard for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Before the Miami Dolphins head north to take on Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team had to make some crucial decisions regarding their 53-man roster.

Earlier in the week, the team put wide receiver William Fuller V on the injured list. Additionally, reports throughout the week have suggested the team will (possibly) raise second-year defensive lineman Raekwon Davis.

According to the Miami Dolphins, the team not only activated their starting defensive tackle for their week five game, but they also elevated EDGE Jabaal Sheard and wide receiver Isaiah Ford for Sunday’s game.

Davis is expected to help the Dolphins execute the defense, which disappointed early on, allowing for 136.8 yards per game. Of course, linebackers are probably more to blame for the opposition’s success on the pitch (considering how good Miami’s inside defensive line is. And besides, how well Ogbah, AVG and Phillips looked at times) , but bringing Davis back into the lineup will certainly help.

And we all know how excited Flores will be to get her young nose tackle back on the lineup.

However, one of the more intriguing moves (IMO) is Miami elevating veteran Jabaal Sheard to the 53-player roster. As Jake and I discussed on our recent episode of Phinsider Radio, the Dolphins will have to put pressure on Tom Brady if they are to have any chance of upsetting the reigning Super Bowl champions. So raising a guy who has already managed to sack some of the best quarterbacks in the NFL seems like the right thing to do.

Miami has chosen to protect Sheard in the previous weeks, so it seemed like it was only a matter of time before Brian Flores left the 11-year veteran, with more than 400 tackles and 53 sacks in his career, to do his thing and prove his worth in Miami.

The most hair-raising move (and yes, it came from a longtime #FordGangGang fan) is why the team chose to activate Ford over the younger, more dynamic wide receiver (in our opinion ) by Kirk Merritt.

Maybe that’s because he brings value as a pass blocker, or maybe because he’s a seasoned veteran and can do all the little things right. Either way, Miami needs a spark on offense, and I’m not sure if that’s something Isaiah Ford is capable of.

Either way, the Dolphins have to play an almost perfect game if they are to upset the defending and reigning Super Bowl champions. But as we’ve seen time and time again, if there’s one team that can get down to Tom Brady and force him to make mistakes, it’s the Miami Dolphins.

What do you think of the dolphins activating Raekwon Davis? Do you think he can help the Miami run defense? Do you think Jabaal Sheard can help reach Tom Brady and do you think Isaiah Ford can finally make a difference? Let us know in the comments section below!
