Tyric Stevenson come home. The defensive back announced on social media Saturday night that he was transferring to Miami after spending the past two years in Georgia. Stevenson, who 247Sports considered a five-star rookie in the Class of 2019, should be eligible to play immediately, assuming of course the NCAA passes a one-time transfer rule later this month.

Stevenson has played 24 games in the past two seasons for the Bulldogs. He made four starts. One of those starts was last month at the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl when he broke a pass late in the fourth quarter against Cincinnati to preserve a win for the UGA.

Miami is looking to add a veteran cornerback to its roster since the staff missed a number of high school goals in the weeks leading up to the early signing period. Stevenson lined up in several places in high school while in Georgia, but is considered by many to be a cornerback after receiving the bulk of his shots at the cornerback position in the sophomore. He will join a hurricane defense that will enter the borderline-shortened spring semester with currently only five purse coins. on the list.

Stevenson’s decision to pick Miami isn’t all that surprising. After shining in sophomore and junior at Miami Southridge, he has secured more than 25 scholarship offers at schools across the country. The All-American Bowl selection ended up making official visits to Auburn, Florida, Miami and Georgia. While the Tigers and Gators certainly played a part in the recruiting, many felt Stevenson favored the Hurricanes and Bulldogs late in the process. UGA ended up winning, but some inside Stevenson’s camp believe things would have been different if Stevenson had known that Manny Diaz would return from Temple to replace Mark Richt as MU’s head coach.

As for what Miami gets at Steveson, he should be seen as a versatile defenseman who can do a bit of anything given his physique and athletic traits. Former 247Sports analyst Charles Powers compared Stevenson out of high school to current Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick, noting that Stevenson, “a cover playing skills, with the ability to manhandle receivers on the line, then turn and run. “

Stevenson is the third notable player the Hurricanes have added to their roster this offseason via the transfer portal. Miami has also secured the services of Tennessee Edge Rusher Deandre johnson and wide receiver Oklahoma Charleston Rambo. Johnson also attended Miami Southridge before participating in 40 games for the volunteers. Rambo caught 76 passes for 1,180 yards and nine touchdowns in three seasons with the Sooners.

Diaz has had great success with Transfer Portal players since taking over from Richt. Last season Miami started six different players who started their careers at a different school: the quarterback By Eriq King, defensive end Quincy Roche, defensive end Phillips’ cry, kicker Jose borregales, security Bubba bolden and offensive lineman Jarrid williams.

King accounted for 30 total touchdowns and gave UM their most consistent quarterback game in years. Roche and Phillips are both set to be the picks on Day 1 or Day 2 of the next NFL Draft. Borregales won the Lou Groza Prize after logging in on 20 of 22 cart attempts. Bolden, meanwhile, has decided to go back to school for another year after a breakout season and is expected to be one of the Hurricanes’ best players in 2021. Williams has not indicated what his future plans are afterwards. have anchored the right side of the Miami line. in 2020.
