The Miami Dolphins are hopeful that quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will be available for their next game after the former Alabama All-American left Sunday’s game with an injury.
The Announced dolphins during the match that Tagovailoa had injured his ribs. After the 35-0 loss to the Buffalo Bills, Miami coach Brian Flores said he did not know the extent of the injury.
“We’re going to do some testing,” Flores said. “I don’t know the severity of the injury at the moment. We’re going to do some testing tonight and tomorrow morning and hopefully have a little more information.
After being sacked twice in the game’s first three snaps, Tagovailoa left after Miami’s second possession. On a 4th and 2nd snap on the Buffalo 48-yard line, Bills defensive end AJ Epenesa crushed the Dolphins quarterback as he threw a check.
After being controlled on the field, Tagovailoa passed on the sidelines. But he was taken to the locker room and did not return.
Tagovailoa had completed 1 of 4 passes for 13 yards.
Jacoby Brissett, the other quarterback on Miami’s active roster, has come the rest of the way. Brissett completed 24 of 40 passes for 169 passing yards and one interception. He also ran four times for 8 yards and was sacked four times.
Buffalo had 11 hits in the shutout.
After the game, Flores was asked if the Dolphins should get another active roster quarterback this week ahead of Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
“I hope Tua will be back,” said Flores, “and we don’t have to go into detail. But we’ll talk about it again this week. Right now we don’t have anyone. We have Reid Sinnett in training team, and we’ll have to take a step to do it, so hopefully we don’t have to.
If Tagovailoa can’t play, Brissett will have to be ready to play against the Raiders, Flores said.
“We will see where we are with Tua,” said Flores. “But like any post, if he’s not able to go – hey, we’ve dealt with this with COVID, with injuries. It is a bit of something that is not new to anyone. The next guy has to play.
