Michael Avenatti and Stormy Daniels separate

Stormy Daniels, the adult movie star who claimed to have had an affair with President Donald Trump in 2006, is separated from his well-known lawyer, Michael Avenatti.

Daniels was the first to announce that she had a new representation in a tweet posted Tuesday afternoon.

"I retained the services of Clark Brewster as a personal solicitor and I asked him, as well as his firm, to review all the legal issues that concerned me." At the end of Mr. Brewster's review and after further consultations with me, I anticipate that Mr. Brewster will be my principal counsel for all legal matters, "wrote Daniels.

About ten minutes later, Avenatti posted his own statement on Twitter where he framed the decision to part ways like his. Avenatti stated that, on February 19, her office had "informed Stormy Daniels in writing" that "we were terminating our legal representation for various reasons that we can not publicly disclose due to solicitor-client privilege. ".

Avenatti did not immediately respond to Yahoo News' requests for comment. An unnamed person responded to a message sent to Daniels' public relations email with a note referring to his previous tweet and stating that it had been "issued 11 minutes before Mr. Avenatti issued his statement" .

Daniels' charges were central to the case against Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen. Last August, Cohen pleaded guilty to several counts of federal crime, including making payments to Daniels so that she would not tell her story in the 2016 election. Cohen acknowledged that these payments were illegal campaign contributions.

Cohen accused the president of having ordered him to make the payments, although Trump initially claimed that he knew nothing about the arrangement. He went on to say that the payments were not related to the campaign.

Avenatti represented Daniels in numerous lawsuits related to his alleged business and the payment of money. His position as his lawyer has made him a key player in cable television, where he regularly criticized Trump. Avenatti attracted a large number of liberal supporters and even experienced a brief period last year, during which he flirted with the entry into the Democratic presidential primary.

Avenatti was arrested last November in Los Angeles on suspicion of domestic violence after his former girlfriend made a report to the police. He called the allegations "completely fictitious" and was not finally charged although prosecutors said the case would remain open.

After his arrest, Daniels initially distanced himself from Avenatti, claiming in particular to have filed a defamation complaint against the president and often spoke on his behalf without his knowledge. The couple is reconciled later.

The domestic violence incident also seemed to torment Avenatti's potential candidacy for the presidency. Last December, just over two weeks after his arrest, Avenatti had announced that he would not show up. He stated that the decision was made "after consultation with my family and at their request".
