Michael Bay and Jake Gyllenhaal Team on ‘Ambulance’ Thriller – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: After weighing several options, Michael Bay has set up his next film as he has just helmed the action thriller. Ambulance with Jake Gyllenhaal in negotiations to play. Bay is ramping up the project as he talks to other actors to join Gyllenhaal with plans to shoot in early January. No distribution deal has been made yet, but sources say Universal Pictures is likely to have a first crack on the package and consider it a negative pickup. Endeavor Content prepares the package.

Chris Fedak wrote the original screenplay with James Vanderbilt, Bradley Fischer and Will Sherak producing. Logline is being kept a secret, but insiders say the film is the vein of great ’90s action thrillers like Speed and Bay’s Bad Boys. The screenplay was coveted for years, but was never able to lock down a director until Bay got their hands on it and instantly fell in love.

This production itself will already be quite a feat to undertake, but if there’s anyone who can rise to the challenge, it’s the veteran director who has made a career out of taking on tough productions. Bay already had a busy 2019 as producer of the STX thriller Songbird, a pioneering film that became one of the first productions to shoot during the COVID-19 pandemic. Directed by Adam Mason and starring KJ Apa, the filming of the film seemed impossible to achieve as cases of COVID began to increase in the United States, but Bay’s persistence as a producer to ensure they l ‘shot down while staying safe played a major role in setting up the stage for other productions to start moving forward.
