Former personal attorney for President Donald Trump has reached an agreement with New York City prosecutors to provide information on the president's business activities, a source close to the situation told NBC News on Wednesday.
The Manhattan District Attorney's Office is investigating the possibility that the Trump Organization has falsified its records, the source said.
Representatives from the District Attorney's Office met with Cohen on Aug. 20 at Otisville Prison in upstate New York, where he is serving a three-year sentence, according to the source.
The agreement states that he will work with the District Attorney's Office in Manhattan in his investigation. Provider agreements allow accused and suspects to provide information to prosecutors without incriminating themselves.
Cohen is serving his sentence after pleading guilty to election campaign financing charges for pouring money into the hands of two women who claimed to have had dealings with Trump before taking office. He also pleaded guilty to lying to Congress about the president's trade relations with Russia and not reporting millions of dollars in revenue.
At the sentencing hearing, Cohen stated that he assumed "full responsibility" for his actions, but that Trump had led him to choose "the only one". darkness rather than light ".
