Michael Conforto left Thursday's game against the Nationals at the end of the fifth inning after being hit in the face by Robinson Canothe shoulder while both were trying to throw a fly ball.
After the match, Mets manager Mickey Callaway said Conforto had been diagnosed with a concussion and would return to New York by train to be evaluated further.
During the game where Conforto was injured, Cano claimed the ball, which then stole it from the glove and landed in fair territory. Conforto also claimed the balloon late.
After being verified by coach and Callaway, Conforto was removed from play and replaced by Keon Broxton.
If the Mets choose to place Conforto on the IL, it may be placed on the seven-day IL.
Regarding the potential substitutes for Conforto if he is absent, Carlos Gomez strikes well for Triple-A Syracuse and has an opt-out from June 1 in his contract.
Another option could be Dominic Smith, who played a little in the outfield in 2018. However, the Mets have so far refused to play against Smith at the field this season – despite the fact that he asked to play.
