Michael Douglas shares rare family photo of son Cameron and new grandson Ryder T. Douglas

Michael Douglas shared a rare photo of his son Cameron and his growing family.

The 76-year-old actor posted to Instagram on Wednesday after Cameron, 42, and his four-year-old girlfriend Viviane Thibes welcomed newborn baby Ryder T Douglas into the world earlier this week.

Sharing the sweet family photo which also featured the couple’s three-year-old daughter Lua, Douglas wrote: Kudos to Cameron and Viviane! Welcome to the world of Ryder T. Douglas! #ProudGrandpa. ‘

Twenty-year-old wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, 51, also congratulated Cameron and Viviane, writing: “And a new Douglas is born !!!!! Welcome to the Ryder T. Douglas’ world, while sharing the photo with his Instastory.

In the photo which was originally posted by Cameron on Instagram, the beaming family stood by a window as Vivian cradled the baby while Cameron stared at the camera with her arm around her partner.

Lua who was sitting in a princess dress had priceless emotion on her face and didn’t look completely amused at not being the only child in the family anymore, as Michael joked: “ Don’t think Lua in is still safe! What a holiday gift.

Catherine also couldn’t help but notice his miserable face as she wrote, “Lua’s face!” like ….. ‘whatever ……….’ Hilarious! Congratulations!!’

The eldest son of the Basic Instinct actor whom he shares with his former partner Diandra Luker, Douglas seemed delighted to welcome another grandson into his life (he also shares his son Dylan, 20, and daughter Carys, 17 years old, with Zeta-Jones).

Although born into Hollywood royalty, Cameron long struggled with cocaine and heroin addiction during his teenage years and early adulthood, which eventually led him to jail.

In 2009, he was arrested in a New York hotel room with crystal meth and served seven years in prison (including two in solitary confinement) for selling and possessing drugs.

Speaking of his troubled past in his 2019 memoir Long Way Home – which Michael encouraged him to write – he said:

“ I can’t go back and change a lot of my decisions and the pain and wreckage that some of those decisions have caused. What I’ve tried to do is take those experiences and turn them into something useful.

Also crediting the birth of Lua and his girlfriend to keep him clean and lead a better life for his family, he told People in 2019:

“Having my daughter gives me a whole new perspective on life. My daughter is an inspiration. I hope she will see that her father has accomplished a lot and done good things and maybe she will be proud of my background.

Now that he’s got a good head on his shoulders and a family to take care of – including Ryder – he and his father have grown much closer.
