SAN ANTONIO – "Leaving Neverland," a documentary detailing allegations of sexual abuse against Michael Jackson, serves as a trigger for San Antonio survivors.

The allegations date back more than 30 years in California and currently affect survivors in San Antonio.

"Some of the elements mentioned in the documentary become triggers for memories," said Phil Ynostrosa-Travers, clinic director of the Family Service Association.

Ynostrosa-Travers has seen more survivors of sexual abuse since the release of the documentary last week.

"It's not uncommon for sexually abused people to dissociate themselves, almost separate themselves from the experience so they do not have to deal with them," Ynostrosa-Travers said.

Ynostrosa-Travers said that repressed memories could surface if a survivor watched "Leave Neverland".

Leaving those who think about their past susceptible to health problems.

"The more experiences one has, the more likely his life will be short," said Ynostrosa-Travers.

For some victims, it may be best to turn off the TV, pick up the phone and call for help.
