Flash star Michael Keaton says his original Batman costume still fits him 30 years later.
Michael Keaton, set to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne / Batman in upcoming DC Extended Universe movie Flash, said he would have no problem adjusting to the suit he first wore in 1989.
During a recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Colbert asked Keaton if he thought he could still fit into the original costume. “I did. I do,” Keaton replied. When Colbert asked if the crew should ‘leave [the suit] out “at all, Keaton exclaimed,” No! No, no, no … “When Colbert commented that it had been 30 years since Keaton first played Batman, the actor replied,” As slender as ever, man … Same dimensions … Same adjustment. “
Colbert then asked Keaton how it felt to be Batman again. “Horrible,” Keaton joked. “No, it’s great. It’s great… I mean, I don’t know how many there are, like 77 Batmen… They should form their own union.” Colbert asked if there was some sort of “Batman Club” where Keaton hangs out with other actors who have played the Dark Knight, such as George Clooney and Robert Pattinson. Keaton said there were none (at least not before the union was formed).
Before Keaton put on the hood, Batman had been played live by Lewis G. Wilson in 1943, Robert Lowery in 1949 and, of course, Adam West in 1966. Keaton played the Caped Crusader in the beloved film from 1989. Batman and its sequel from 1992, Batman Returns. Keaton then left the film series, with Batman being played by Val Kilmer in the 1995s. Batman Returns and by George Clooney in the 1997s Batman and robin.
Batman has since undergone two major film reboots, played by Christian Bale as director Christopher Nolan Dark Knight Trilogy and by Ben Affleck in the DCEU so far. Another reboot is underway, with Robert Pattinson set to star in 2022 The batman. Bruce Wayne has also been portrayed in live-action on the small screen in recent years by David Mazouz and Batman: The Animated Series alum Kevin Conroy.
Interestingly, in addition to Keaton’s return, Affleck is also set to reprise his role as Batman in Flash, which will use the DC multiverse. Flash Also stars Ezra Miller as the titular hero, as well as Sasha Calle as Supergirl, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, and Ron Livingston as Henry Allen. Additionally, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Rudy Mancuso and Luke Brandon Field have been cast for undisclosed roles. Directed by Andy Muschietti, the film is slated for release on November 4, 2022.
