Earlier this summer, Keaton described the resumption of his role as “muscle memory.” His work on the film is already done, but told Colbert it was great to see the character again. He also joked about the massive number of performances of Batman, saying, “I don’t know how many there are, like 77 Batman. I think they should form their own union.” Colbert joked back, asking that there was an exclusive “Batman Club” where all the different actors go to hang out, to which Keaton replied, “No, not until the union is formed.”
Keaton first played the role in Tim Burton’s 1989 film “Batman” and reprized the role for 1992’s “Batman Returns”. The duo left the franchise opening the doors to Val Kilmer and George Clooney to take the lead. relay respectively in “Batman Forever” and “Batman & Robin”. #FreeTheBatNipple
Keaton will join Ben Affleck in “The Flash,” both playing their versions of the Dark Knight himself. The Flash holder (Ezra Miller) travels through time and alters timelines, allowing canonical space for multiple Batmen.
During an interview with Jimmy Kimmel in 2020, Keaton famously spoke of always donning the costume at random around the house. “If I don’t feel secure enough I’ll slip into the suit. It makes me feel a lot better,” he told Kimmel. “I’m going to walk around the neighborhood a bit. By the way, when things here get a little nervous, I just put on the costume, and boy, things straighten out.”
