PITTSBURGH – The trial of former East Pittsburgh police officer Michael Rosfeld for shooting and killing 17-year-old Antwon Rose is on his third day Thursday. The Commonwealth is rested and Rosfeld testified for his own defense.

UPDATE 10.30am Thursday: The judge was initially considering a motion to grant immunity to Trayvon Robertson's defense so that he could testify at the trial.

Rosfeld's lawyer hoped to call Robertson to testify, but Robertson declined the invitation, citing the Fifth Amendment.

Late in the afternoon, it was decided that there would be no immunity for Robertson. Robertson is the driver arrested by Rosfeld before shooting and murdering Antwon Rose.

UPDATE 7:00 pm Thursday: A few minutes after the hearing, Rose's mother asked those who knew him to talk about the young people they knew.

"He was always kind and considerate, bending down to look at the children, despising and interested in them, and remaining one of the sweetest souls I've ever met," said Gisele Fetterman.

UPDATE 18:03 Thursday: The hearing session ended the day after the testimony of an expert on the use of force. The expert, a former police officer, said that Rosfeld had followed his training. He will be back at the bar on Friday to continue his cross-examination.

"Although everyone else has treated this incident as a high-profile viral incident, it's very personal to them. This makes them relive the most difficult time of their lives, "said Lee Merritt, Rose's family lawyer.

Rosfeld said that he thought the suspects, Rose and two other people on board the car, were armed and dangerous, and that one of them had pointed his gun at him.

"They were dangerous suspects who had just tried to kill someone," he said.

Rosfeld also testified that he did not know that he had hit the three shots he had fired. Rosfeld and another officer found Antwon Rose shortly thereafter.

"I was upset and shocked. I could see the wound on his face. He was moaning, trying to breathe, "he said.

UPDATE 1:30 pm Thursday: Michael Rosfeld told the judge that he would speak and testify for his own defense.

Judge Bicket also decided to grant the request for acquittal of the defense for second degree murder, but rejected it for other counts of murder and manslaughter.

UPDATE 11:55 AM THURSDAY: The prosecution is rested in the Michael Rosfeld trial. The latest Commonwealth witness, a videographer from the Allegheny County Police Department, said there was only one second left between Rosfeld's three shots at Antwon Rose.

UPDATE 11:30 Thursday A gun expert and a scientist from the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office testified on behalf of the prosecutor in the trial of former police officer Michael Rosfeld.

The firearms expert, Raymond Everett, showed Rosfeld's juror's weapon and the two weapons recovered from the car Antwon Rose had recovered when he was shot, explaining in detail how they worked. The explanation included the number of bullets that can be fired.

During cross-examination, Rosfeld's lawyer, Patrick Thomassey, immediately began asking questions about the firearms found in the car that Rose had found with Zaijuan Hester, who had pled guilty to having shot to death at North Braddock before the traffic stop in the east. Thomassey's attention then turned to Rosfeld's rifle. He added that it was not unusual – and should be considered normal – that a police officer had a bullet in the room, ready to leave, because he had to be ready to react to a threat and protect the people at any time.

By the time the scientist came to the helm, he said that a magazine found in Rose's pocket at the hospital did not match the weapon used by Hester during the shooting. The magazine contained no balls.

The second day was mainly focused on how Rosfeld acted after pulling the trigger, while Rose, who was not armed, had been racing since a traffic stop in June in East Pittsburgh.

The new video of the traffic control captured by a student from the University of Pittsburgh who was returning home after his summer classes was screened on Wednesday.

Flashing lights can be seen in the video before gunshots are heard.

Neighbors and eyewitnesses testified that Rosfeld was shaking and crying after shooting, and even wondered why he had shot and if anyone had seen a gun. A witness stated that other officers were to comfort Rosfeld.

The speed with which filming has taken place is crucial in the case.

"The charge is that jurors see and process image-by-image events. In other words, they want this story to slow down, "said lawyer Blaine Jones, a lawyer. The jurors heard the testimony of nearly 20 witnesses and, although it appears that the trial is proceeding very quickly, the legal experts stated that things were going well because there is video evidence.
