Michaela Coel has joined the cast of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, the sequel to the Marvel hit movie “Black Panther”.
Character details are locked, as usual. Insiders say Coel joined director Ryan Coogler at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, where production began last month. Marvel Studios declined to comment on the matter.
Coel exploded on Hollywood’s radar in 2020 with her critically acclaimed HBO Max series “I May Destroy You,” for which she received four Emmy nominations. In addition to writing, directing and producing, Coel starred in the series as a popular writer dealing with the trauma of rape in contemporary London.
Coel’s credits include the Netflix shows “Black Mirror” and “Chewing Gum”, and the feature films “Been So Long” and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”. She is currently not represented by an artistic agency. She works for her independent label Falkna Productions, which co-produced “I May Destroy You”.
The first “Black Panther” grossed over $ 1.3 billion at the global box office.

“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is slated for wide release on July 8, 2022.
