Michigan coaching staff turnover continued this week with the apparent departure of Mike Zordich.
Zordich, who was one of two remaining original staff assistants to Jim Harbaugh in 2015, refers to himself as a “Free Agent DB Coach” and lists the University of Michigan as a former employer on his. twitter account.
Michigan, nor Harbaugh, have officially acknowledged the change, but the school has reportedly hired Dallas Cowboys assistant coach Maurice Linguist to serve as co-defensive coordinator and cornerback coach.
Zordich was one of six Michigan assistant coaches whose contract expired on Monday, January 11. Quarterbacks coach Ben McDaniels has since left, while more changes with staff are expected. Wolverines defensive coordinator Don Brown was removed from his post on December 22.

Harbaugh hired Zordich to join his staff when he arrived in Michigan in December 2014, after two seasons as a safety coach and special teams co-coordinator at Youngstown State and four years on the staff of the Philadelphia Eagles from the NFL.
He was successful from a talent development standpoint, turning Channing Stribling and David Long into NFL Draft picks. Lavert Hill and Ambry Thomas also played under Zordich, who was sometimes not afraid to publicly criticize his players.
But hard times have struck in 2020 with Thomas retiring and Michigan forced to play a pair of first-year starters at the cornerback. The unit was targeted by opposing teams from the start and served as major sticking points in the Wolverines’ losses to Michigan State and Indiana.
“We have to adapt as coaches,” Zordich told reporters in November. “We just can’t keep banging our heads against the wall. We have to give our guys a chance to develop and get familiar with the fundamentals and the techniques, and I think we did.
Zordich, 57, had a 12-year career in the NFL, where he started 125 games and had nearly 600 tackles and 20 interceptions. He was an All-American safety, team captain at Penn State, and the San Diego Chargers’ ninth round pick in 1986.
