Michigan Governor Supports GM Workers on Strike

LANSING, MI (WILX) – Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer supports auto industry workers who oppose General Motors.

The Democratic Party visited United Auto Workers on Monday in front of the Lansing Grand River plant, a few blocks from the Capitol building.

Spokeswoman Tiffany Brown said Whitmer was closely monitoring the strike and supporting the right of workers to negotiate together for better wages, benefits, working conditions and more time with their families.

More than 49,000 unionized GM workers left their jobs shortly after midnight on Monday.

Whitmer said she hoped that the UAW and GM could negotiate and quickly ratify a new contract, as it is important for Michigan to ensure that auto workers resume their work at home. faster.
