Michigan Governor to Make Major Announcement Regarding Efforts to Slow the Spread of COVID

STRAIT – Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer will make a major announcement on Sunday evening regarding efforts to slow the spread of the coronavirus as cases continue to rise.

The media briefing will take place at 6 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Whitmer office. You can watch the press briefing in the video player above.

Whitmer will be joined by Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Medical Director Dr Joneigh Khaldun and MDHHS Director Robert Gordon.

Fair Sunday on Flashpoint Brian Peters, CEO of the Michigan Hospital Association, has warned that if coronavirus cases continue to rise, Michigan will surpass its record of hospitalizations in the coming weeks.

“Looking very specifically at the number of hospitalizations, we are on pace, if current trends continue to surpass our all-time high that we reached earlier in the year in terms of COVID-related inpatient hospitalizations during the next few weeks. And so, it is definitely time to sound the alarm, ”said Peters.

The number of confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Michigan rose to 251,813 on Saturday, including 7,994 deaths, state officials report.

Saturday’s update represents 7,072 new cases and 65 additional deaths. The deaths announced today include 36 deaths identified during a vital examination.

Michigan broke its previous high for one-day COVID-19 cases on Friday, with a record 8,516 reported cases.

Additionally, the state reported a total of 138,862 recoveries of COVID-19 yesterday.
