2021 Michigan signatory Will Tschetter will begin their basketball season on Friday after a delay of about a month. While his team constantly trained in anticipation of playing, the delay allowed him to keep an eye on his future team as much as possible. As you can imagine, he is in awe of what he saw.
“The most important thing for me in their great start is how everyone buys, one through five,” Tschetter told 247Sports Thursday. “I love to see how well they play together, but also how much the players support each other and how it is a complete team effort. The guys on the bench are having fun and the team respects and playing hard for Coach Howard. “
For Tschetter, what he’s seen from Michigan so far is exactly what he anticipated when he was drafted by the Wolverines.
“They told me that we were going to win a lot of games and that we would have a lot of fun doing it,” he said. “It was crazy how well they were playing. Seeing guys like Chaundee Brown jostling while they’re big and energy levels stay high for 40 minutes was really cool. I am delighted to be a part of it. “
This year’s Michigan squad is well balanced with slashers, post players and guards. When Tschetter made his commitment to the Wolverines, TMI podcast contributor and former Wolverine Tim McCormick described Tschetter as a “ quarterback ” capable of contributing in a profound way.
When asked what unique trait he could bring to Michigan’s roster, Tschetter’s response was consistent with McCormick’s analysis.
“I feel like I can stretch the defenses pretty well,” he said. “I think I could be a real asset to them right off the perimeter.”
Tschetter completed the 2021 recruiting cycle as the 143rd ranked player in the country according to the 247Sports Composite. He is in the top ranked recruiting class in the country as a Juwan howard and the company signed one of the best classes in the program ever in the cycle.
Howard and the Wolverines currently sit atop the Big Ten Conference after a dominant winning streak against the Badgers, Minnesota and Northwestern. With the victory over Wisconsin, they became the first team in NCAA history to defeat three Top25 teams in a row by more than 19 points. Michigan continues to be led by a freshman center Hunter Dickinson, which was a revelation in his first season with the show. The Hyattsville (R) native averages nearly 17 points per game with eight rebounds and has arguably been the team’s best player as they roll to start the season.
The Wolverines also got great contributions from transfers from Mike Smith and Chaundee Brown with a great second year game Franz Wagner and junior Isaiah Livers among others. Michigan will now travel to Minnesota on Saturday night in another Top25 game as the Wolverines look to remain one of only three undefeated teams in college basketball along with Gonzaga (# 1) and Baylor (# 2).
