Microsoft is working on a big change for the Windows 10 taskbar, and it’s available for testers starting today. The new feature, which will be ad-free, will add a Google Discover-style news and weather feed, making it easier for users to access important information.
In a blog post on Wednesday, Microsoft detailed the latest feature. “With News and Points of Interest on the Windows taskbar, you get quick access to an integrated feed of dynamic content, like news and weather, that updates throughout the day,” Microsoft’s Brandon LeBlanc said.
According to Microsoft, users will be able to personalize their feed with relevant content. Having everything on the taskbar is much more convenient than switching between apps or checking multiple devices.
The news feed in the Windows 10 taskbar will display the latest headlines, sports, and over 4,500 global brands, including The New York Times, BBC, and The edge. When you open an article from the News Feed, you get a streamlined reading view that offers fewer distractions.
“As more and more of us spend time on our PCs to work, learn, connect and play, the news and interests in the taskbar are a good companion for those who want to stay connected with information on the latest current events, ”said LeBlanc. “Over time, we hope to spread your news feed and interests to other places, like Microsoft Edge, so you can stay up to date wherever you are.”
News and weather features are available in the Windows Insiders taskbar today starting in version 21286 in Dev Channel. The functionality is accessible by Windows Insiders in the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Australia and India.
The new features come amid a wave of additions for Windows Insiders, including more modernized storage space settings, an improved experience when switching between time zones, and the ability to run Linux commands on startup. in WSL.
