Microsoft Announces Closed Beta for Earth Minecraft AR Engine Game for iPhones

Microsoft announced its Minecraft Earth AR engine game in May. The company's latest game, Minecraft, uses Augmented Reality to bring Minecraft into the real world, much like Pokemon Go.

Microsoft presented a truly impressive demo for Minecraft Earth at Apple's WWDC conference in June, and this week the company officially opens the closed beta of the new game. As promised, Microsoft launches a closed beta for Minecraft Earth, starting with iPhones (and iPads). We understand that Microsoft has opened the beta in recent weeks, but officially announces the closed beta this week.

The new game will be available in closed beta for iOS in the next two weeks. The closed beta program has a limited number of participants, so you will need to register as soon as possible if you wish to participate.

Microsoft says that an Android version of the closed beta will follow the iOS version, although it does not yet provide a specific date or schedule. I'm curious if the Android version will work on most devices, given the iPhones and iPads, Microsoft can simply use the ARKit kit from Apple for all AR features. But on Android, the story is very different.

Anyway, you can sign up for iOS's closed beta for Minecraft Earth here, and we'll let you know as soon as it arrives for Android.
