Microsoft today released a support document warning users of Windows 10 that the impending update of May 2019 might not install on their systems if they were using device devices. external USB storage or SD cards.

Fortunately, there is a quick and easy solution to this problem. Microsoft recommends that users remove any external USB or SD media and restart the installation of the May 2019 update.
This includes USB flash drives, USB external hard drives, or SD cards inserted into card readers. Unless users are running Windows 10 from one of these devices (which is highly unlikely), most users will be able to work around this problem.
In the long run, Microsoft plans to address the problem of "improper reader reassignment" in a future Windows 10 maintenance update.
Microsoft will not block the May 2019 update for all users of Windows 10, but only for those running the April 2018 update (Windows 10, version 1803) or the update for Windows Vista. October 2018 (Windows 10, version 1809). Users of earlier versions of Windows 10 will be able to upgrade to May 2019 without any problem.
