The latest update of this hotfix on Tuesday caused a series of updates with many issues since version 18362.356 built for the 1903 release was discontinued on September 10th. several games.

At present, the Redmond giant has recognized the audio problem based on consumer feedback and explained that this was due to the implementation of a "compatibility change" at the request of some audio partners. To remedy the problem, the firm cancels the change and suggested a workaround that will solve the problem for users in the meantime.

The company wrote on its support page for its version KB4515384 under the title "Known issues in this update":

Microsoft has received information that the audio of some games is quieter or different than expected after the installation of this update. At the request of some of our audio partners, we implemented a compatibility change that allowed some games to query support and render multi-channel audio. Due to customer feedback, we are canceling this change because some games and devices do not render multichannel audio as expected. This may result in a different gaming sound than customers are accustomed to and missing channels.

The proposed workaround corrects the audio problem by disabling multichannel audio. Users have two options to temporarily resolve this issue before Microsoft releases a new hotfix. They can either turn off multichannel audio by accessing the settings of the affected game, if this option is available, or search for nested third-party audio device control settings in the Windows Control Panel, and then turn off Virtual Surround Sound and. Multichannel audio.

As reported in the latest update releases, Microsoft announced that it is currently working on a solution that will solve the myriad of issues in an update that should be deployed by the end of the month.
