Microsoft has been rather quiet about its Project xCloud streaming service since its announcement last October, but now it seems that the tech giant is ready to set the record straight for its future in the cloud.
In a new article on Xbox Wire, Kareem Choudhry, CVP of Gaming Cloud at Microsoft, described Project xCloud as "a vision of streaming game technology that would complement our console and give gamers more choice in the game. way and where they would play ".
Citing the technological advances in content delivery that have changed the way we read books, listen to music and watch movies "on the most convenient device," Microsoft hopes it can do the same for games.
Redmond hopes to achieve the noble goal of streaming "true console-quality games" to "more than 2 billion players worldwide" through advanced network technologies developed in-house and through its many distributed data centers in 54 Azure regions. .

"We are developing Project xCloud not to replace gaming consoles, but to offer the same choice and versatility that music and video enthusiasts enjoy today," said Choudhry. "We love what it's possible to do when a console is connected to a 4K TV with full HDR support and surround sound – it's still a fantastic way to experience console gaming."
However, Choudhry says that the real purpose of Project xCloud is to create a "future in which you can seamlessly access the content of your phone, tablet, or other connected device."
"We are now at an inflection point, where current technology can deliver a console quality experience with the right cloud infrastructure, content and community in place," said Choudhry.
We certainly hope that Project xCloud can keep that promise. We will know for sure when Microsoft will launch public testing of the service later in the year.
