One of the main features of the next update of Windows 10 May 2019 is the promised security of the Windows update process itself. Microsoft had ensured that users would no longer be surprised by the automatic installation of new feature updates and that they would have greater control over the entire process.
The company has apparently begun offering this feature, which is essential for devices running Windows 10 version 1903, with some users having identified a new section "Additional Updates Available" (via Reddit). The May 2019 update is currently part of the slowdown and preview rings, but anyone can install this update before publishing.
"Starting with the Windows 10 May 2019 update, users will be better able to launch the operating system update," Microsoft said in April.
In fact, all customers will now have the option to explicitly choose whether they want to update their device when they "check for updates" or suspend updates for up to 35 days.
This new "Download and Install Now" button would only appear for feature updates (the two major updates provided by Microsoft each year), but currently they also appear for cumulative updates. The button is also supposed to arrive for Windows October 10, 2018 Update (version 1809) and April 2018 Update (version 1803). We will know more once this really happens. Microsoft added that Windows will continue to "automatically launch a new feature update if the version of Windows 10 approaches the end of support".
This addition of a new button should, hopefully, rid Windows 10 users of unexpected updates that occurred simply by clicking the "check for updates" button to see if new updates were available , not always with the intention of installing them. However, alongside these new controls, Microsoft must also improve the quality of updates. In the meantime, users will remain wary of each new update sent by Microsoft, including security updates that should not really cause any problems.
