The Cortana mobile app for Android and iOS is officially retired by Microsoft today, March 31, 2021. Originally released in November 2018, the voice assistant app has been removed from the Google Play Store and the Apple’s App Store in January of last year. While it is still functional, as of today Microsoft has confirmed that it will no longer offer support for the app.

According to a support page marked by 9to5Mac, Microsoft says that reminders and lists will no longer be available to app users. however, it can still be accessed through Cortana on Windows. Plus, Cortana reminders, lists, and tasks automatically sync with the Microsoft To-Do app, available for Android and iOS.

As we announced in July, we will be ending support for the Cortana app on Android and iOS soon, as Cortana continues to evolve as a productivity assistant.

As of March 31, 2021, Cortana content you’ve created, like reminders and lists, will no longer work in the Cortana mobile app, but will still be accessible through Cortana in Windows. Plus, Cortana reminders, lists, and tasks automatically sync with the Microsoft To Do app, which you can download to your phone for free.

After March 31, 2021, the Cortana mobile app on your phone will no longer be supported.

The reason Microsoft killed the mobile version of the app is due to a change in strategy. Cortana is being integrated into the Microsoft 365 productivity suite of apps and, of course, it will continue to serve as the default voice assistant for Windows 10. With Cortana’s integration with Microsoft 365, the company introduced personalized, actionable briefs in Outlook for Exchange Users; and adding Cortana to the Teams mobile app to manage calendars, emails, and join meetings. The dedicated mobile application is no longer part of this vision.
