Microsoft does not make jokes about this April's fool's joke

If you are a bit like me, you might not like the April Fool's Day – a lot. This is a time when many companies are trying to find ways to be fun, usually by misleading users or promoting somewhat ridiculous features. Some of these attempts may actually be fun or interesting, but very often, they go south, upsetting the customers and causing a bad reputation for the company or organization that created the joke.

Microsoft seems to have acknowledged that the pranks of the April Fool's Day did not always please customers, and Chris Capossela, the company's marketing director, sent an internal memo to all Microsoft teams asking them not to participate in the public debate. -facing jokes, as reported by The Verge. Capossela says that while the results can sometimes be entertaining, "the data tells us that these stunts have a limited positive impact and may actually lead to unwanted cycles of information". Although many people will welcome the decision of Microsoft, it may be a little disappointing, because Microsoft has in fact delivered interesting ideas for the April fool in the past. In 2015, the company released a Windows Phone application that simulated the classic MS-DOS operating system. It even included a number of Easter eggs for the curious.

Microsoft has opened the way in this direction, it will be interesting to see if other companies will follow in his footsteps. Nevertheless, you will probably want to take extra precautions when April 1st comes.
