Since moving to Chromium, Microsoft Edge has grown into one of the most reliable cross-platform browsers available to users. It even trumps Google Chrome in that it doesn’t take up as much memory – a real boon for systems with limited RAM. To provide an even better experience, Microsoft is now unveiling a major update that adds a bunch of new features to the browser.

New themes

If you’re looking to apply a fresh coat of paint to your browser, you might want to try the 24 new themes released by Microsoft. These range from simple colors to game specific colors such as Microsoft Flight Simulator, Forza Horizon 4, and Sea of Thieves, among others.

Sleep tabs

Microsoft is making Edge even more resource efficient with Sleeping Tabs. This feature improves browser performance by freezing inactive tabs and reallocating system resources to power active tabs and programs. It’s not enabled by default, so you’ll have to go to the settings menu.

Password manager

A key feature rolled out with the new update is the Password Generator, which will automatically suggest a secure password when you sign up for an account or change an existing one. Microsoft is also planning to release more features of Password Manager, including a monitor that will alert you if your password has been exposed or leaked on the dark web.

Tab history and synchronization

Soon after bringing cross-device history and tab syncing to UK users, Microsoft made the feature available to all users. Now you’ll be able to pick up where you left off on all of your devices (even Android and iOS), and you won’t have to scramble on a particular phone or computer to find the website you visited.
