The return of Microsoft Flight Simulator is worth celebrating.

Microsoft Flight Simulator, the first new entry in the venerable series in eight years, arrives on PC this week. The new game brings Flight Sim into the modern era, with unmatched visual fidelity and accessible gameplay for casual gamers.

The exceptional graphic detail of the world of Microsoft Flight Simulator is achieved through a combination of satellite imagery and real-world photogrammetric scans. As you approach each parcel of land, an algorithm uses all of that data to broadcast into better models of the world below you.

This makes it a very believable recreation of our world without monopolizing everyone’s hard drive with terabytes of data. Microsoft Flight Simulator is already a fairly large game with 150GB of space required, but the details shown here would require even more space.

Like its predecessors, the new game will also support various add-ons via an in-game marketplace. For newcomers to the series, there are many simulation options that can be turned off or off for a near-arcade feel.

Read below to see if the new Microsoft Flight Simulator lives up to the name in our roundup.

Microsoft Flight Simulator releases tomorrow August 18 on PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. The game is also available on Xbox Game Pass from day one.
