Windows 10 updates for December will be limited to only critical security fixes – in other words, cumulative updates from the Tuesday monthly patch – with no optional updates to follow later in the month.
Microsoft explains that security updates for December are effectively prioritized because staff members will be on vacation for the holiday season, so optional (non-security) updates are set aside to allow software engineers to focus on the main fixes.
As Windows Latest spotted, Microsoft wrote in a support document for the latest November security patches: “Due to minimal operations during the holidays and the upcoming Western New Year, there will be no release. preliminary for the month of December 2020. will resume with the security releases of January 2021. “
These preview versions are the optional updates released during the third and fourth weeks of the month, known as “C” or “D” updates because of their timing. Patch Tuesday updates arrive on the second Tuesday of the month, so these are ‘B’ patches, due in week two (there are no ‘A’ updates, as usually nothing happens that day. first week of the month).

Optional updates will resume in January as mentioned, and hopefully focusing on the major fixes in December will ensure a better chance of them working well. After all, things haven’t been going so well for Windows 10 updates lately, as we’ve seen – so it seems like a smart move on Microsoft’s part.
Recent bugs that plagued Windows 10 updates recently include an issue that caused serious issues with the operating system interface, and another pesky little gremlin that is affecting gamers.
In all likelihood, we also won’t see many new preview releases for Windows 10 testers during the holiday season (or if there are any, the changes will likely be kept to a minimum).
